We are delighted to offer Born To Carry courses as part of a nationwide network of trainers.
These are one day courses designed to offer those working with parents an insight into carrier comfort and safety, the benefits of carrying, simple techniques, the range of carriers on the market and how best to support parents choosing to use slings and carriers. They are also suitable for those wishing to learn about a range of carriers for personal use. Previous attendees have included midwives, chiropractors, doulas, breastfeeding support workers, childcare professionals, health visitors, sling library owners and volunteers, parents and adoptive families.
The course covers:
Safety guidelines and testing.
Basic physiology of the carried baby and stages of development.
Needs of the carried child and carrying family.
The benefits of infant carrying.
Practical sessions with five main carrier types (stretchy wraps, woven wraps, ring slings, Asian inspired carriers and buckle carriers).
Troubleshooting, the two most common problems with each type of carrier and how to help people eliminate them.
The baby carrying industry and the role of a peer supporter.
All equipment is provided on the day including training materials, a minimum of six carriers per person to work with, and weighted dolls. Refreshments are available but lunch is not included. Each course runs 7.5 hours over one day. Please get in touch with any access needs or to discuss bringing your own babies to the course.
