Other Carriers

This section shows carriers and accessories which do not fit anywhere else. Some of the carriers listed here are not available for rent, but are for demonstration purposes only. There can be many reasons behind this. One of the librarys primary objectives is to provide information, and sometimes keeping a carrier which will not be used can help with that, either to illustrate correct and incorrect positioning, to show an example of a counterfeit carrier, or to remind library customers of how to safety check carriers before use.

  • Closed tail padded hip carrier

This carrier is designed to carry small babies in the cradle position and larger babies on the hip. Sometimes padding can be a blessing and sometimes it can inhibit the use of a carrier making it difficult to get tight enough. This carrier is used to demonstrate the differences in padding between brands and how this affects safety.

This carrier is available to try on, but not available to rent or buy through library supporters.

  • Lodger Shelter Baby Sling and Wrap

Often there are carriers on the market that offer to do more than one thing, this carrier is a car seat lining/snug which transforms into a cradle position carrier with the aid of a clip. A wraparound carrier can also be a blanket, hammock, high chair by virtue of its simplicity, but it is not always possible to do many things at once. This carrier is in the library to allow parents to decide if a multi use carrier can excel.

Damaged Mei Tai

This mei tai is well made and has had a long and well loved life. It has travelled all over the world, been to Canada, Disneyland, Japan, the US, Scotland, and all around England as it was once a travelling carrier. It has carried many happy babies and toddlers, but many years on from its manufacture, it is showing signs of wear both cosmetic and structural. It forms part of the library that helps parents know what to look for in a carrier – what is cosmetic damage and what is not. This is especially useful knowledge if you buy carriers second hand.

This carrier is available to try with demonstration doll only, and not to rent or buy.
